It has always been my firm belief and my guiding principle – one must constantly strive for personal betterment and consequently endeavor to leave behind a legacy, which would testify that life was not spent in vain.
24 years ago I set out on a journey that changed the course of my life – I embarked upon a feature film project of immense proportions, even by Hollywood standards. Call it wide-eyed youthful optimism, misguided naiveté or simply stupidity, but I was adamant and remain so to this day – ‘I will achieve my goal’. I even stated so publicly, to ensure a no turning back policy.
Since then ‘Carpe diem’ (seize the day) has been my credo and ‘Dare to try something different’, Improvise, Overcome, Adapt, my approach to life.
Admittedly it’s been an onerous ‘rite of passage’ and a lonesome quest; most people fail to see, fathom or appreciate the magnitude of such an enterprise, thus support is seldom seen. Nevertheless, it’s a learning experience like no other for developing character.
Would I do it all again? Without a doubt yes, I would repeat this extraordinary experience a thousand times over, than resort to living an ordinary life.
To commit to such an undertaking requires faith, passion, clarity of vision, a single-mindedness of purpose, a resolute and unyielding spirit, a healthy dose of optimism and lots of positive energy all of which help to forge the foundation for success.
My advice for those in limbo or teetering on edge – it’s never too late. Emancipate yourself from social constraint and live each day like it was your last, start today because one day there may not be a tomorrow. Mobilize your mind, visualize your goals, improvise your methods, individualize the results – extrapolate.
Fear not, ‘the failing’ but only that you never truly lived. Fight a good fight and remember – ‘You can never be a failure unless you stop trying’.
Now go forth and recreate your world – realize your dreams (even the little ones).
If I can do it, so can you!
I’ve gotta say I admire the positivity in this blog post. In fact it’s somewhat scary.
I may be damaging my movie credibility with this comment but I loved Joe Dirt, Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion, the Waterboy and Empire Strikes Back but nothing has fired up my desire to clean up my old act, go out there and geddem (like a smiling tiger) like your extraordinary tale of pursuing your dream.
You have stripped away those self-imposed mental barriers. More power to you I say, lets see this dream come true reclined in a Gold Class cinema seat!
Emboldened, I’m working myself up to go out there, clear of purpose, focused in vision, to liberate my inner artiste and express myself through an interpretative dance installation; clothing optional.
Hi Sasha Oh I’m so happy that I was able to inspire you into liberating your inner artiste, although I strongly recommend that clothing be compulsory for interpretative dance 🙂
Brownie points for Empire Strikes Back, the rest of the titles elude me.
Easy on the pelvic gyrations my friend.
The Sage Master.
